REFLECTIONS FROM PIONEERS SERVING HERE
What is a favorite thing about your host culture?
One of the favorite things about our host culture is the hospitality of the people . When you visit a friend they will often invite you for a meal. While you visit and they prepare to serve you they ask you about your recent happenings and share what is happening in their life too. If a person is traveling from one place to another and needs somewhere to sleep for the night, people will welcome even strangers in and with their bed roll, they get to take a spot on the floor. There are never too many people in a group and there is always room for one more.
What does the spiritual landscape look like there?
The percentage of Christians who live here is so small, only 1.94%. The first missionaries to come here arrived in 1990 and though the gospel was received with curiosity and openness, it has not spread to small towns and villages across the steppe. Many who claim to be followers of Christ have never been discipled and have mixed the world view of Shamanism and Tibetan Buddhism in with Christianity. The cultural characteristic to always try or move to something new has caused many seeds of the gospel to be carried away by the wind.
How can I pray for this country and people?
Please pray that mature believers here will want to invest in other young believers. Pray that people would be convicted of sin, judgment and righteousness. ( John 16:8) Pray that people will be satisfied with the good things God has provided for them instead of wanting to move to another country where the ‘grass is greener’. Pray that the body of Christ might be unified, supporting one another and building one another up. Pray that the country would continue to be open to allowing Christians to worship freely.
