Social Media Photo Pack 13

Central Asia stretches from the Caspian Sea in the west to China and Mongolia in the east, and from Afghanistan and Iran in the south to Russia in the north. The region consists of the former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan and boasts remarkable diversity and history.

Here’s 4 things you may not have known about Central Asia:

  1. Uzbekistan has the world’s largest open pit gold mine at Muruntau, deep in the desert. It’s apparently visible from space.
  2. The people of Yaghnob village in Tajikistan are the only speakers worldwide of Sogdian, the language of ancient Sogdiana – concurred by Alexander the Great.
  3. Tulips, apples and walnuts all came to Western Europe from Central Asia. The world’s largest natural source of walnuts is from a forest near the Kyrgyz village of Arslanbob.
  4. Tajikistan has an austerity law to prevent wedding parties being too large. The law was created to prevent families going broke by throwing huge parties they could not afford.

Use this Photo Pack in your advocacy and mobilization efforts – that the good News of God’s Kingdom would be made known among the unreached peoples of Central Asia.
