The country of Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries on the planet and its people are predominantly Muslim. With the partition of India in 1947, it became the Pakistani province of East Bengal, one of five provinces of Pakistan. In 1971 it became the independent country of Bangladesh, with its capital at Dhaka.
Rural areas throughout Bangladesh are so thickly settled that it is often difficult to distinguish any well-defined borders of individual villages. By some accounts there are over 97,000 villages in the country. Will they remain in the grip of Islam?
