Social Media Photo Pack 16

With over 27 million inhabitants, Punjab is the 16th-largest Indian state by population. It borders Pakistan and is the heart of India’s Sikh community. The city of Amritsar, founded in the 1570’s by Sikh Guru Ram Das, is the site of the Harmandir Sahib, the holiest place of worship for a Sikh. Known in English as the Golden Temple, it is surrounded by water called the Pool of Nectar and is a major pilgrimage site.

As I understand it, Sikhs do not believe that Jesus is God because Sikhism teaches that God is neither born, nor dead. Sikh teaching purports that people are essentially good; containing a divine spark that requires fanning into a flame of goodness. “Sinning” is following the veil of illusion called “Maya”, the root of which is egoism and the assertion of self. Karma is unavoidable in a constant cycle of reincarnation until enlightenment is reached.

Pray with us that spiritual strongholds would be overcome by the love of Christ as followers of Jesus share the Good News in culturally understandable ways among Sikh communities in Punjab and beyond.
